New MSc student

Veterinary master student Lovisa K. U. Östblom has started working on the project "Equine cardiac Repolarization".

The aim of the current project is to describe the expression profile of the equine K+ channels and regulatory subunits. This will help us understand the regulation of electrical currents responsible for the heart function in large animals, which is currently unknown. The project will be made in collaboration with the biotech company Gubra.

The project will include:

• Laser capture microdissection
• qPCR analysis of K+ channel expression in conductive and cardiac muscle tissue
• Inter species expression profiling using a novel DNA standardisation technique
• Histology, immunohistochemistry and western blotting
