Research profile

My research focus lies in equine cardiology, exercise physiology and the adaptation of the heart to exercise.

This interest was initiated with the first research project I carried out at the University pf Bern. This project aimed at testing of a new drug for the treatment of atrial fibrillation in horses (Dr. med. vet-Thesis). After several years of clinical education that allowed me to qualify as a diplomat of the European College of Equine Internal Medicine, I started a second research project at the University of Zurich. In particular, this project aimed at improving the prediction of the prognosis for horse with valvular regurgitations by measuring cardiac biomarkers at rest and after exercise. This project combined extremely well my interest in equine cardiology and exercise physiology and ended in 2013 when I defended my PhD-Thesis.

The interest in equine cardiology and exercise physiology was then the starting point for me to move to France where I could deepen me knowledge in Equine Sports Medicine in an environment providing access to a horse population mainly composed of race horses. In France, I had also the opportunity to study more in deep the adaptation of the heart to endurance training in young Arabian horses.

Through the Marie-Sklodowska-Curie fellowship I obtained in spring 2015, I got the opportunity to explore a new aspect of equine cardiology, especially by focusing on repolarisation disorders and sudden cardiac death.
